Energy Independence Act Compliance

On May 21, 2020, Snohomish County PUD completed its 2019 renewables compliance examination under the Energy Independence Act (EIA).

LOLS10在线直播下注The PUD demonstrated its compliance with the EIA using the renewables target method. Under this methodology, the PUD demonstrated that 588,669 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy and renewable energy credits (RECs) were used to serve its retail customers. This represents 9 percent of the utility’s average retail load, in accordance with the Act’s requirements.

The EIA enacted conservation and renewable resource requirements. This legislation is commonly referred to as “Initiative 937,” which requires Washington state electric utilities serving 25,000 or more customers to:

  • Pursue all cost-effective energy conservation; and
  • Obtain a specified portion of their electricity from certain renewable resources.

As part of EIA implementation, the PUD reported that it achieved total energy conservation of 152,725 MWh for the calendar years 2018-2019. This exceeds the PUD’s 2018-2019 biennial conservation target of 127,984 MWh submitted to the Washington State Department of Commerce.
